Causes of Bad Breath

Chronic bad breath, or halitosis as it is commonly called, typically is caused by oral bacteria. All to often, people who suffer from halitosis have no idea that they are affected by it. Lets take a look at the five most common causes of bad breath.

The food we eat can have the most immediate impact on our breath. There are certain foods which tend to affect everybody’s breath in a negative way. There are also foods that may interact with your personal chemistry and result in foul odor from your mouth. Dry mouth is another common cause of bad breath. The medical term is Xerostomia. Basically, the pH balance of your mouth becomes out of whack so that bacteria is more favorable to grow. Less saliva is being produced to remove these bacteria. The end result is bad breath. This is what you would commonly refer to as morning breath.
